Feb. 2, 7:30 p.m. at the Cathedral Basilica
Since 1997, the universal Church has celebrated the World Day for Consecrated Life. On Thursday, Feb. 2, the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord, the Archdiocese will observe this day at the Cathedral Basilica in Newark with a special emphasis on the call to consecrated life in today’s world. This Feast is also known as Candlemas Day – the day on which candles are blessed, symbolizing Christ who is the light of the world. So, too, are those in consecrated life called to reflect the light of Jesus Christ to all peoples. We recognize and give thanks for those who have consecrated their lives to God and the Church through the vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience.
Cardinal Joseph Tobin invites all the faithful to gather in celebration, support and thanksgiving with Evening Prayer and the blessing and lighting of candles. This invitation is extended to the members of every parish as a means of supporting and thanking the consecrated men and women of our Archdiocese for their selfless gift of service to our local Church. Come celebrate with us as we gather in the spirit of that call!
