Message from Cardinal Tobin in Celebration of Catechetical Sunday, Sept. 15, 2019

“On September 15, the third Sunday of September, the U.S. Bishops once again call us to celebrate Catechetical Sunday in order to recognize and prayerfully support those called to serve the community in the catechetical ministry. The theme chosen for this year is ‘Stay With Us.’ …

Today, we continue to implore the Lord to ‘stay with us’ to help us make sense of the many challenges which we still face each day and seek His comforting presence and the insights we gain from the Scriptures in order to make faithful choices. It is our task as the Church to remain close to those who are troubled and confused; those in need of Jesus’ comfort, and to make Him present today by our witness and faithfulness.…

As Archbishop of Newark, I wish to join with the faithful of the Archdiocese in recognizing those who so generously give of themselves in helping to make Jesus present and helping others to encounter Him through the important ministry of catechesis in our parishes and schools. I offer my gratitude and that of the whole Church of Newark…and offer to them our support and prayers.”

Cardinal Joseph W. Tobin, C.Ss.R.
