Happy New Year, Mary!

Dear Parishioners,

As we begin 2017, I'd like to wish everyone Happy New Year! In the Catholic Church, January 1 is also a holy day. We're celebrating Mary, the Mother of God.

Reverence for Mary goes back to early times. It was only when the truth about Jesus was more clearly understood that a lively devotion to Mary sprung up. The thinking of the Church seemed to be that since Jesus is our Savior and the Son of God, then his mother, who gave Him to the world, must share to some degree in His greatness. Through Mary, Jesus came to earth, and we received our salvation.

Our faith teaches us that Mary was born free from original sin. She was blessed by God, more than any other person. God chose Mary to be holy and free from sin. The beauty of Mary's life and its importance for our salvation brings us to honor her as the Mother of God.

Sincerely in Christ,

Father Dominick
