We listened to a gospel today about putting Jesus first in our life. Jesus tells us not to let anything or anyone be more important than He is. He doesn't do this for His own glorification. His was a life of poverty and simplicity.
Jesus asks us to give Him a central place in our hearts and in our lives for our own sake and for our own happiness. We'll never really be satisfied in life until we possess and are fully possessed by the life that Christ came to bring us. As St. Augustine said, “Thou hast made us for thyself O Lord, and our hearts are restless until they rest in thee.”
We learn that being a true follower of Christ requires sacrifice; it's not always going to be easy. Jesus wants us to stay true to following His teaching. By putting Jesus first in our life, we will build our relationship with the Lord. This will enable us to listen to Jesus, even when it requires sacrifice. This is the way we prepare ourselves to one day live with the Lord for all eternity.
Sincerely in Christ,
