May 20 Updates

Many thanks to all the people who helped make the Religious Ed. program a success this year, especially the parents who remain faithful to their promise to raise their children in the Catholic faith. Thanks also to our catechists, especially Mrs. Kurtyka for her photographic skills displayed in the collage of our First Communicants at the entrance of the church.

Thanks also to the Rosary Society for the rosaries with which our First Communicants were gifted.

Registration information for next year has been mailed. Please return your forms ASAP to allow us to plan to meet our needs for classes. If you know of someone with a Catholic child entering first grade, please remind the parent that preparation for First Communion is a two-year process, starting in first grade. Registration forms can be obtained by calling the office. Also, if you have a child in Catholic school or home-schooled and want him/her to receive First Eucharist or Confirmation in our parish, please contact us for information.

Our Summer Book Club begins Mon., June 5 at 1 p.m. in Glover Hall with New Seeds of Contemplation, one of Thomas Merton's most widely read and best-loved books. According to the New York Times: "New Seeds of Contemplation seeks to awaken the dormant inner depths of the spirit so long neglected by Western man, to nurture a deeply contemplative and mystical dimension in our lives. For Merton, 'Every moment and every event of every man's life on earth plants something in his soul. For just as the wind carries thousands of winged seeds, so each moment brings with it germs of spiritual vitality that come to rest imperceptibly in the minds and wills of men. Most of these unnumbered seeds perish and are lost, because men are not prepared to receive them: for such seeds as these cannot spring up anywhere except in the soil of freedom, spontaneity and love."'
